Term 2 Here we go!

 Kia ora koutou,

Welcome back to Term 2!  This week in our iPad cybersmart learning time, we were using Explain Everything to show how creative we are.  We thought carefully about what we enjoyed doing during our school holidays, and how we could use our Explain Everything to show this using photos, images, shapes, colours and our drawing tools.  Then we can video ourselves sharing what we enjoyed so much about our holiday activity.

Taking photos on our iPad

 Today Room 7 were learning all about taking photos on their iPad.  To take really clear photos we need to:

- get the cover out of the way

- put your iPad in the right place

- take a photo of your best face

- use your knees to help keep your iPad safe and steady

 - rotate your iPad so the camera is up the right way

- keep your iPad still

If we take a blurry photo we delete it and try again.

Kapa Haka

 Last week we went to the Kapa Haka Festival. We have been practising and practising. We all loved it! 

On the day we had to get dressed ready to perform. Can you see what we had on our faces?

Sunsmart Place to Play

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we continued making movies about Being Sunsmart. We took photos of sunsmart place to play and talked about them. 

We used iMovies to make the movie. We added ourselves talking using the "picture in picture" feature in iMovies. Some of us remembered how to add titles that we learned last week.

Being Sunsmart

 This term we have to wear our hats at school whenever we go outside - even if it is cloudy! We all have a hat to wear. The brims make shade to protect our faces, necks and ears. We worked in pairs to make a movie showing where we eat at our school. We have a big shady area called the wahinui where we sit and eat.

Editing Photos

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we were leanring how to edit photos on our iPad. We took a selfie then used the editing tools to change or add to our photo. Some of us used filters, some of us added speech bubbles and some of us used the Markup tools to draw on our photo.

Blogging Buddies in Tuhi mai Tuhi Atu

Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu is a Manaiakalani blogging programme where we have 2 classes as our blogging buddies.

We write on our blog so other classes can read and find out what we have been learning to do. They can comment on our blog. Then we read their blogs and comment as well.

Our blogging buddies are in different places in Auckland and Hokitika in New Zealand. Here is a map to show you. Have you been to Auckland or Hokitika?

Playing Games

Today we adding to the stories we started last week in our Cybersmart lesson.  We added a 2nd and sometmes a 3rd scene so that our sprites could play a game together.

Scratch Jnr is an app on our iPads and you can download the app for free and use it on android tablets as well. You can use Scratch Jnr to program your own interactive stories and games. When we are doing this we are learning to solve problems, design projects, and be creative by using our computational thinking.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

 This week is Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. We are practising greeting each other in Te Reo Māori.

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we created a story with 2 sprites meeting each other and greeting each other in Te Reo Māori. This is the start of our stories. We will continue with them next week.

We used Scratch Jnr which is an app on our iPads and you can download the app for free and use it on android tablets as well. You can use Scratch Jnr to program your own interactive stories and games. When we are doing this we are learning to solve problems, design projects, and be creative by using our computational thinking.

Tongan Language Week

 Room 7 love poems. Today they read a poem called "Mālō a lelei" for Tongan Language Week.

We are Readers!

Room 7 love reading. We read every day. Today in our Cybersmart lesson we recorded ourselves reading our books that we read last week. Some of us worked in pairs because we could read the same book.

We took a photo of the page and record ourselves reading each page. We used Explain Everything to do this work.

Puppet Shows

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we carried on making puppet shows with our reading books.
Some of us worked with a buddy like Cole and Maycee. Here is their work.

Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu

We have been in a Manaiakalani Programme called "Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu". It means - I write, you write.

We share our learning on our blog and other classes come and read our blog posts and comment on them.

We have got Room 3 @ Glen Innes School and Rūma Kererū @ Hokitika as our blogging buddies.

Here we are reading and commenting on blogs. We like looking at how many visitors we have had to our blog.

Puppet Shows with Explain Everything

Today we were making puppet shows in Explain Everything.
We used a book we could read.
We made puppets with the characters in the story.
We had to learn how to use the scalpel tool to cut carefully around the characters.
Then we recorded our voices and moved the characters like in a puppet show.
Do you know who else uses a scalpel? If you have been to hospital and had an operation you will know.

Holidays by Room 7

We started our term 3 Cybersmart work by recording a part of the holiday that we liked.

We had to draw our name first using the pen tool in Explain Everything. Lots of us can do this really quickly now.

Then we drew our picture and recorded our voice.

Today with Mrs Torrie we used the camera app on the iPad again.

We remembered how to use the drawing tool and 

write our name in different colours.

We also had to remember how to use the lasso tool so we could just have us in the photo.

When we got a photo of Matariki we recorded our voice.

Monsters in Room 7

On Friday we made monsters.

We made our Monsters with coloured paper.

Then today in Cybersmart with Mrs Torrie we used Explain Everything on the iPads. We used the camera app in Explain Everything to take a photo of our Monster.

We gave our Monster a name.

We have done some Bubble sewing.

We have put them up on the wall with our Bubble Art.
